With a passion for harnessing technology to revolutionise education, Mr Delon Wong stepped into his role as Director of Information Technology at HSUHK in August 2025, ready to redefine the University’s digital landscape. Having served as Associate Director since 2022, Mr Wong brings a dynamic vision to his new role: aligning IT innovation with HSUHK’s “Liberal + Professional” education model to enhance the digital experience of students, faculty, and researchers.
Mr Wong’s IT journey began with a curiosity for solving real-world problems through system development and enterprise applications. His career pivoted to higher education, inspired by technology’s transformative potential. “Working in universities allows me to elevate our university’s capabilities through innovative digital solutions,” he reflects. As Director of IT, he oversees HSUHK’s IT strategy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and user services.
Mr Wong’s vision for the future centres on making IT a strategic enabler for HSUHK’s goals of academic excellence, research innovation, and sustainability. Key initiatives include establishing a University AI Hub for teaching and administrative use, implementing a procure-to-pay system, deploying a data warehouse for institutional reporting, and enhancing cybersecurity through a zero-trust approach. Mr Wong also plans to roll out an AI-assisted document management system and leverage the Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Lab for enhancements in student learning.
The information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) will continue to support HSUHK’s progress by providing robust digital infrastructure for innovative teaching, high-performance computing for research, and seamless, mobile-first student services. Mr Wong aims to foster digital confidence through training and co-creation, ensuring technology amplifies HSUHK’s identity. Addressing challenges like evolving technologies, cybersecurity threats, and legacy system integration, he plans phased modernisation and cloud migration. “We’ll take a principled, evidence-based approach: start with pilots, measure impact, and scale responsibly,” he says.
Aligned with the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Mr Wong believes that IT can play a role in promoting paperless workflows and smart campus solutions. Under Mr Wong’s leadership, ITSC is poised to elevate HSUHK’s reputation as a forward-thinking liberal arts institution by equipping its community with the latest technologies. Mr Wong invites collaboration: “Let’s drive innovation and digital transformation together as HSUHK continues to grow as a leading liberal arts university in the region.”
