To further enhance the University community’s digital communication literacy, HSUHK has established the Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Lab, which is equipped with advanced “Extended Reality” technologies. The Lab combines Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to create realistic visual effects for creators and provide immersive experiences.

Located on the 2nd floor of the Creative Humanities Hub, the Lab is equipped with the industry-leading virtual production platform “Disguise” and the live production system “TriCaster”, offering real-time broadcast-grade background removal technology. The Lab also features a high-resolution LED wall measuring seven metres in width and seven metres in height, paired with professional 6K cameras, high efficiency autofocus systems, stabilisation technology, and advanced camera tracking systems, delivering an immersive and detailed visual experience.

Additionally, HSUHK also established Multimedia Commons on the 1st floor of the Hub to support diverse media projects. It houses 20 high-performance computers equipped with cutting-edge software and hardware, live mixing equipment, and an integrated audio effects library with over 100 plugins. This facility enables interactive multimedia development, content creation, digital recording, music production, and professional sound design, meeting industry-standard specifications.

The investment of over HK$10 million is open to all students and all teaching staff for their use.

The University holds a workshop introducing state-of-the-art equipment at the Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Lab, which allows students to explore virtual production skills and virtual character design.
