The business case study, Operations Strategy at Galanz, authored by Dr Stephen Ng, Head and Associate Professor of the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management at the School of Decision Sciences and his team, has been recognised as one of the 25 most classic and widely used cases over the past decade (2014-2024) by prestigious international publisher, Ivey Publishing. The case has also been included as one of the business case studies by the Harvard Business Review.
The International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH) has established the CIPSH Chair for Cultural Heritage and Creative Humanities at HSUHK. Professor Desmond Hui, Head of the Department of Art and Design, serves as the Chairholder for the next five years, with effect from 1 August 2024. The CIPSH Chair in Cultural Heritage and Creative Humanities, which is a university-wide cultural project, will focus on establishing links with the North-South alliance in terms of building capacity and facilitating the transfer of knowledge in creative humanities and cultural heritage management.
Organised by UNESCO World Heritage Institute of Training and Research-Asia and the Pacific Region, the “2024 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases” award ceremony was held in July 2024 in New Delhi, India. The HSUHK-led Tiger Balm Garden Metaverse Virtual Reality project was judged in three rounds of expert reviews and highly impressed the panel and was presented with the “Star of Outstanding” award among hundreds of global projects.
To promote diverse and inclusive development, as well as create a barrier-free campus, the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management at the School of Decision Sciences and the Big Data Intelligence Centre, fully supports Mapxus, a local indoor navigation and positioning service company, by providing a comprehensive digital map that covers the entire HSUHK campus and indoor floor positioning. Through the CityGeni application developed by Mapxus, users can accurately navigate across the HSUHK campus. HSUHK is the first educational institution in Hong Kong to provide a complete digital campus map for users, further strengthening its efforts to develop a smart and inclusive campus.
Two student teams from HSUHK, Earnet and Webminds, achieved outstanding results at the Cyberport University Partnership Programme. They were shortlisted among the top 20 teams for their excellent performance and participated in the Web 3.0 Entrepreneurship Boot Camp at Draper University in the USA. Earnet, which included Jeffrey Wong (BBA (Hons) in Marketing, Year 4) was shortlisted among the top 10 teams and received a grant of HK$100,000 from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund.
Petal Choi and Sherry Siu (BBA (Hons) in Marketing graduates) took part in the Youth Elite Aspiration Programme (YEAP) organised by the Hong Kong Professional and Senior Executive Association. Both graduates were leaders of a team that won the first prize in the YEAP One-Belt-One-Road Competition against seven other groups.
HSUHK Cricket Team’s Captain Rana Muhammad Shoaib (BBA (Hons) in Professional Accountancy, Year 4) represented the Hong Kong, China Cricket Team at the 2024 National Cricket Championships held in Shanghai, where the team won the match. The HSUHK Cricket Team was established this year and clinched the University Cricket League championship.
